"What I have done was completely unacceptable, and I want to apologize to the fans because I shouldn't have let my fury get the better of me," Meteb told Dream TV on Tuesday.
Meteb expressed his outrage on his way out of the pitch when he gestured with his boots to the fans after being showered with insults from the fans for his performance during the match that Egypt won 3-0.
The Ahli striker did not have the best of games as he squandered a host of chances before eventually received his marching orders late into the second half for a second offense.
"I know I shouldn’t have reacted that way, but I have been jointly insulted by our own fans despite the comfortable three goal margin, and to be more specific it’s the second class section supporters who were on my case," he added.
"It’s a shame because this is not the first time I’d be insulted like that by my own fans who should be supporting me rather than abusing me."
Meteb has been subject to a similar hostility by the Egyptian fans in a friendly international against Uganda in December 2005.
Reports suggest that the 24-year-old will be fined by the national team’s coaching staff whom he promised to contact for an apology following the incident.
