Zamalek will lose first-choice goalkeeper Abdul-Wahed Al-Sayed for the rest of the season after he sustained a knee cruciate ligaments injury during the Arab Champions League semi-final game against Faisali on Tuesday.

The club's general manager Alaa Maqlad confirmed the news that the 30-year-old guardian will undergo an operation in Germany after scans proved a partial tear in the right knee ligaments.

"Abdul-Wahed aggravated a partial tear in cruciate ligaments in the same right knee which he injured last October," Maqlad told Filgoal.com on Wednesday.

"It’s not expected that he could return to action before next season, and he will be sent to Germany soon to undergo an operation in the right knee."

The Egypt international suffered a lengthy layoff which kept him on the sidelines for seven months after suffering a serious injury in his right knee last October.

Egypt goalkeeping coach Ahmed Sulaiman expressed his disappointment with the news claiming that Abdul-Wahed's injury is a blow for the national team as well.

"I am really shocked, he is very unfortunate because he was about to regain his form and has just recently returned to international football," he said.

Zamalek will suffer a goalkeeping crisis if Al-Sayed's deputy Mohamed Abdul-Monsef completed his move to Italian side Catania.
