Anderlecht's hopes of clinching the double were demolished after they were handed a 2-1 away defeat to Standard Liege in the second-leg of the Belgian Cup semi-final on Wednesday.

Axel Witsel put the hosts in front two minutes after re-start but was cancelled out by Mbokani Bezua's strike in the 65th minute.

Standard Liege regained the lead through Milan Jovanovic in the 77th minute to grab a 3-1 aggregate victory and reach the cup's final.

Egypt skipper Ahmed Hassan, who scored 15 goals for Anderlecht in all competitions this season, didn’t start the game due to high temperature but was introduced in the 64th minute.

Liege will face Club Brugge in the final after the latter overcame Gent.

Anderlecht are currently in charge of the league table with 75 points, two ahead of second-placed Racing Genk with two matches to go.
