The self-destructive Real Madrid

Real Madrid should decide whether they want to see their team play attractive football or are aiming to increase the number of trophies the Royal club had achieved throughout their 105-year history.

The question should be asked in the wake of Fabio Capello's shocking departure, although the Italian coach guided Real Madrid to their first Primera Liga title in four years.

Real's sporting director Predrag Mijatovic, who once played under the guidance of Capello, was the one who submitted a report to show the former Juventus manager's errors during the season.

Maybe the club's board choice to give Mijatovic the responsibility of assessing Capello's work was based on the former player's huge experience in football management!

Instead of appreciating Capello's efforts to bring back Real to the winners' podium, Mijatovic revealed inconvincible reasons for sacking the 61-year-old manager, who has been fired for the first time in his managerial career.

Mijatovic was not happy with Capello's cautious strategy and his style of play which doesn’t suit the caliber of such a prestigious club.

Since his arrival, Capello managed to recruit the players which he really needed, without looking for a player who may prompt an advertising blitz but will never bring glory to Santiago Bernabeu, the habit which marked the end of the 'Galacticos' era.

He moved to strengthen the team's defense and midfield and his 'blamable tactics' bore fruit at the end of the season as Real capitalized on Barcelona's repeated slip-ups to clinch the league title.

Real committed the same mistake they made four years ago when they decided not to renew the contract of Spanish tactician Vicente del Bosque, who guided the club to two Primera Liga titles and two UEFA Champions League triumphs during his four-year spell with Los Merengues.

It remains to be seen whether Real will endure another disappointing spell like what happened after Del Bosque's departure or Bernd Schuster, who is expected to take over at the club, can maintain the Spanish giants recent stability.
