Sheffield United midfielder Ahmed Fathi denied reports suggesting that he will return to Egypt to play for Cairo giants Zamalek on a season-long loan.

Fathi, who insisted more than once that he intends to remain with Sheffield despite their relegation to the Championship, was linked with a move to Zamalek after he was reportedly deemed surplus to requirements at Blades.

However, the former Ismaili midfielder quashed all rumors and stated he doesn’t want to return to Egypt.

"It is true that Zamalek officials have contacted me but I told them I will stay in England," Fathi told FilGoal.com.

"If I leave Sheffield I will look for another club in Europe and won't return to Egypt."

The 22-year-old has also rubbished claims that he does not feature in Bryan Robson's plans for next season.

"the coach never talked to me about leaving the club."

Fathi took part in Sheffield's first pre-season friendly against Worksop Town and contributed to the team's 2-0 victory.

He wasn't included in the squad for Sheffield's first match in Ireland, where they are holding a training camp, against Newry City as he continues working to full fitness.
