The 32-year-old international curled a trademark free-kick home in the 27th minute and set-up Landon Donovan for the second in the 47th minute.

Beckham, who has been in the spotlight since joining the MLS side from Spanish champions Real Madrid earlier this summer, expressed his excitement with his first goal.

"I felt I was going to score as soon I got the ball in my hands," Beckham told reporters after the game.

The former Manchester United captain had struggled to shrug off an ankle injury since joining Galaxy and has made two brief appearances with the team before starting the game on Wednesday and being substituted in the 63rd minute.

"I didn't expect to last an hour but it felt great after 10 minutes into the game," he said.

"My confidence got up with my ankle and I was happy to be out there for 60 minutes. Overall, the ankle was a lot better than I thought it was going to be and I felt confident going into tackles."

Galaxy will host Mexican champions Pachuca on August 29th in the championship match of the inaugural SuperLiga tournament, which matched American and Mexican top sides.
