"Benfica have reached agreement with Fernando Santos and Jorge Rosario to end their respective contracts," a club statement read on Monday.

Benfica were held to a 1-1 draw with newly-promoted Leixoes in the opening match of the Portuguese league on Saturday, but the board decided that that’s enough for Santos.

Santos was midway through his two-year contract with the Eagles, but the Benfica fans have been calling for his head since last season.

Reports suggested that president Luis Felipe Vieira has flied to Spain in order to agree terms with former coach Jose Antonio Camacho to take charge.
