The Bavarians were on the brink of snatching the victory before Egyptian striker Mohamed Zidan scored three minutes from time on Sunday.

"You shouldn’t be satisfied when conceding a late equalizer, but I have to say that we were lucky to take the lead in the first place," Hitzfeld said.

"We were too passive. We couldn’t score again and it was unfortunate, but you have to be happy with a point on such a day."

Bayern lead the table with 10 points while Hamburg remain fifth on seven.
