Luca Toni will miss Italy's Euro 2008 qualifier against France at San Siro on Sunday after failing to recover from injury in time, Azzurri boss Roberto Donadoni said on Friday.
"He will struggle to be ready for tomorrow. It is likely that he will have to work towards the Ukraine game," Donadoni was quoted as saying by Calcio Italia magazine.
AC Milan's Filippo Inzaghi is expected to replace the Bayern Munich hitman in Italy's attack.
On the other hand, France will be missing Arsenal defender William Gallas due to muscular problems.
However, France boss Raymond Domenech will be boosted by the news that Patrick Vieira is ready to participate in the match after recovering from an injury he sustained last month.
"Physically, I’m fine. Raymond Domenech will decide whether I play or not, but the desire and determination is there," Vieira said.
