Abdou (R) bids farewell to Jose (L)
The title holders were far from impressive against Contractors, but the Portuguese manager was quick to assure the fans there will be no repeat of such form against Zamalek.
"We will certainly play against Zamalek much better than we did today. I'm waiting for the players' response and I'm sure they will return to their best on Monday," Jose told the post-match press conference.
Jose believes the lackluster show against Contractors was down to the players' thoughts about Zamalek clash.
"I warned the players not to think too much about Zamalek game, they should have concentrated on beating Contractors. Their uncaring approach was the worst thing in the match," he added.
The former Sporting Lisbon and Benfica manager cited other factors for the dull display.
"Most of my players have just returned from international duty with Egypt and Angola and they endured exhausting trips."
"Mohamed Barakat wasn't 100% fit but I was forced to field him late in the match to increase my attacking options," he concluded.
