Mido eyes Egypt return

Ahmed Hossam 'Mido' will miss Egypt's last African qualifier against Botswana due to a hamstring injury, the Middlesbrough star confirmed.

X-rays showed on Monday that Mido needs at least three weeks of rest, which rules him out of Egypt's decider as well as the Premier League game against Manchester City.

"I won't be available for the game," Mido said in phone call with FilGoal.com on Monday.

"I hope I can be fit for the game against Chelsea in the Premiership after three weeks."

Mido picked up the injury against Sunderland and he insisted to play in the 2-0 defeat against Everton on Sunday.

He was forced to leave the pitch midway through the second period with clear pain.

The 24-year-old striker was one of three European-based players included in Egypt's squad for Botswana alongside his Middlesbrough teammate Mohamed Shawky and Hamburg forward Mohamed Zidan.

The African Champions will secure their place in Ghana 2008 if they could beat minnows Botswana or at least get one point in Cairo.
