Manchester United produced an impressive second-half display to crush Wigan 4-0 at Old Trafford and go top in the Premiership table on Saturday.

The Red Devils were kept at bay by Wigan defenders in the first-half but managed to overturn the game in the second period.

A brace from Cristiano Ronaldo in addition to goals from Carlos Tevez and Wayne Rooney put the Latics to sword.

United became in charge of the league table with 20 points, one ahead of second-placed Arsenal who have a game in hand. Wigan lie 14th on eight points.

Argentinean striker Tevez broke the deadlock in the 54th minute when he latched on to Anderson's neat pass and held off Kevin Kilbane before evading keeper Chris Kirkland and slotting into an empty net.

Ronaldo doubled the lead four minutes later, heading on the rebound after Ryan Giggs' free-kick from the right was palmed by Kirkland.

The Portuguese winger added the third in the 76th minute when he connected with Wayne Rooney's low cross to fire home.

Rooney put the icing on the cake eight minutes from time as he met Danny Simpson pinpoint cross to head home from close range.
