"Messi deserves it both for his achievements and his quality," said the Barca star to Catalunya Radio.

Despite ending this season trophy less as the Catalan side failed to win any silverware while Argentina lost to Brazil in the Copa America, Messi was particularly amazing.

"He excites me as a player. I don't know if he'll win it, though: Kaka had a great year. But, as for me, I prefer Messi."

Brazilian playmaker Kaka and Portuguese winger Cristiano Ronaldo are believed to be the main challengers for the France Football award.

Kaka led AC Milan to their seventh European Cup while Ronaldo was inspirational for Manchester United in their successful Premier League campaign.
