Bayern Munich are set to miss key defender Lucio in the UEFA Cup opening game against Serbia's Red Star Belgrade on Thursday,

The Brazilian center-half is struggling with a stomach problem, and despite his progress, coach Ottmar Hitzfeld does not wish to risk him.

"Lucio is becoming better, but he won't be jeopardized against Red Star," Hitzfeld told the club's official site FCBayern.com on Monday.

In addition to Lucio's setback, the Bayern coach revealed that defense duo Martin Demichelis and Daniel Van Buyten are slightly doubtful, along with French sensation Franck Ribery.

"They are all questionable for Thursday," Hitzfeld admitted.

Ribery and Van Buyten are complaining from thigh strains, while Argentine defender Demichelis has flu.

Veteran goalkeeper Oliver Kahn has resumed full training, following an elbow surgery in the US, but the 39-year-old is yet to regain match fitness.
