Former Tottenham manager Martin Jol has blamed the summer transfer signings for the team's poor start of the season.

"I felt the squad would be unbalanced with these signings and it proved to be the case," the Dutchman told the Sun on Friday.

Jol revealed that he wanted two experienced players but instead Spurs hired Darren Bent, 23, and Younes Kaboul, 21.

"I think the club wanted to invest in younger players because they wanted to make money on them in the future. The decisions were not being made for footballing reasons."

Jol, who was sacked last week after the 2-1 defeat against Getafe in the UEFA Cup, hit back at Spurs sporting director Damien Comolli for lack of cooperation.

"When Frank Arnesen was director of football we spoke together about the players to bring to the club. But I did not have the same relationship with the next man (Comolli)," added Jol.

"I knew that in the summer and I realized my position was becoming very difficult."

Former Sevilla manager Juande Ramos took over at the Spurs and earned an advice from his predecessor. "The funny thing is the new manager will probably come to the same conclusion and the club will go out in January and buy the two players I felt we needed."
