Ittihad keeper Essam Mahmoud said he wants to leave the club in the January transfer window after being demoted to a second-fiddle role.

Al-Hani Soliman became Mohamed Salah's preferable choice between the sticks, to the frustration of Mahmoud.

"I intend to leave in January," the 30-year-old told FilGoal.com on Thursday.

Mahmoud has skipped training sessions which preceded Ittihad's 2-1 defeat to ENPPI, prompting the Alexandria-based club to hand him an EGP 20,000 fine, according to football director Sayed Karawan.

The former ENPPI guardian has previously refused to extend his contract, which runs out at the end of the season.
