The Alexandria-based club slumped to a 2-1 home defeat to Ghazl Mahalla in the last match before the Egyptian League stops due to Egypt's preparation for the African Cup of Nations.

The loss left Ittihad second from bottom in the league table with 11 points, three behind the safety zone.

"We will meet with Salah to discuss his future with the team," Ittihad board member Hesham Al-Torki told FilGoal.com.

However, Salah has insisted he will not resign from his post.

"Ittihad will have to pay an EGP 50,000 as a penalty for terminating my contract," he told FilGoal.com.

Al-Torki revealed that Brazilian tactician Carlos Dante is a strong candidate to take charge of Ittihad.

Dante previously coached Uruguayan club Rocha, who are currently playing in the second division. He also had spell with Saudi club Abha.
