Substitute Javier Balboa scored in the dying seconds to save Real Madrid from an embarrassing defeat following a 1-1 away draw with Alicante in the first-leg of the King's Cup round of 32.

Real coach Bernd Schuster rested a number of first-team players as his side take on arch-rivals Barcelona in El Classico on Sunday.

Perez-Penas Borja stunned the Primera Liga holders in the 61st minute after converting a penalty.

Balboa, who replaced Royston Drenthe in the second-half, saved Real blushes just before the end.

"My teammates told me I scored a good goal and I am very happy with it because it is worth twice its value, which will help us in the home game," Balboa told Real website.
