The 30-year-old did not make a single appearance with Spain and will be qualified to play for England after a year.

"They (Spain) have never, never called me," Almunia was quoted as saying by BBC Sport.

"If other people want me, I have to study my situation and take a decision because it is good for me - I will not close myself to anything."

After playing second-fiddle to Jens Lehmann for three years, Almunia has been Arsene Wenger's first-choice guardian this season.

Germany keeper Lehmann was sidelined through injury and couldn't regain his starting berth after his recovery.

Arsenal tactician Wenger recently advised England new manager Fabio Capello to include Almunia in his plans.

"I could only advise you to take advantage of it and call him up for the England squad," the Frenchman told The Sun.

"He had never played for a big club before and made some mistakes, but he has gained confidence and calmness. He is a good keeper."
