The one-time African champions reached CAN finals for the first time in 32 years and are desperate to make a notable impact.

They were drawn in Group C of the tournament along with defending champions Egypt, Cameroon and Sudan.

"We want to claim good results in Ghana to show that 2008 will be a year to remember for Sudanese sport," Tambal was quoted as saying by local paper Captain.

"We are aware it will be a tough challenge against Africa's powerful nations but we do not fear them. We want to reach far rounds.

"We are fully ready to get Sudanese football back on track after our CAN dry spell," he added.

The 29-year-old played a pivotal role in helping his club Al-Merrikh reach the CAF Confederation Cup final before losing to Tunisia's Sfaxien.

He scored 16 goals for Al-Merrikh in 2007.

Sudan are holding a training camp in Spanish city Malaga. They will face Belgian club Gent, Nigeria and Guinea in their build-ups to CAN.
