Italy defender Gianluca Zambrotta said he was betrayed by former club Juventus, whose officials called the player a traitor earlier this week.

Zambrotta, among other players, left Juve following the court ruling that sent them to Serie B after being found guilty of match fixing.

"I was called a traitor, but I was the one who was betrayed," Zambrotta was quoted as saying by Calcio Italia magazine.

"All of us who gave our all in training and games just to have two Scudetto taken away were let down."

Zambrotta went to Barcelona, former skipper Fabio Cannavaro left for Real Madrid and duo Patrick Vieira and Zlatan Ibrahimovic joined Inter Milan.

The four moved in big deals, injecting much-needed money into Juventus accounts.

"Besides, with the money they got from selling us they covered a lot of their debts. We gave the club a big hand," Zambrotta said.
