Cristiano Ronaldo scored a first half goal and that was enough for Manchester United to beat Lyon 1-0 (2-1 agg.) and reach the UEFA Champions League quarter finals.

The English Champions started the game as they are used to, going forward to find the goal. But the visitors were very cautious and showed a very solid and organized defense to avoid any bad surprises in the beginning of the game.

The fans had to wait until the 41st minute to see Ronaldo break through. Anderson attempted a low shot but it was blocked to fall in the feet of the Portuguese ace who made no mistakes in putting it in the back of the net.

Lyon had nothing to lose and could have leveled the score when Abdul-Kader Keita fired a shot past keeper Edwin Van Der Saar but it was rejected by the post.

The French Champions pressed forward and left a lot of spaces in defense allowing to Wayne Rooney, Nani and Ronaldo to threaten the keeper but not enough to double the lead.

It wasn't a vintage performance by Manchester United but they realized their objective and went through.
