Juventus captain Alessandro Del Piero is hopeful to be part of the Italy squad in next summer's Euro 2008, despite his repetitive omission from the Azzurri in friendlies.
The Juve legend is enjoying a marvelous season at Olimpico, but his form was not good enough for Roberto Donadoni to recall him for midweek's Euro 2008 warm-up with Spain.
Del Piero was also left out during last month's 3-1 win over Portugal, but the Italy coach explained the reasons for excluding the veteran forward.
However, this time Del Piero was not contacted by Donadoni, but King Alex did not give up on a place in the Italy roster for the European championship.
"He called me last time. In any case, the coach knows me well and will then make his decision. I hope to be there, too," said the 33-year-old after Juve's 2-1 win at Inter Milan.
Del Piero played more than 80 times in the blue shirts of the Azzurri, scoring 27 goals.
