Ghaly took part in the game

Aston Villa thumped Derby County 6-0 in the Premiership on Saturday to widen the misery of Hossam Ghaly's side.

The hosts took the lead after 25 minutes through Ashley Young, who capitalized on a blunder by Derby keeper Roy Carroll.

Norwegian striker John Carew doubled the lead just one minute later with a low shot from the edge of the area.

Stilliyan Petrov added a third in the 36th minute after a stunning 40-yard lob that went into the top corner of the net.

Gareth Barry killed off the visitors' hopes in the 58th minute before Gabriel Agbonlahor added the fifth in the 76th minute.

Substitute Marlon Harewood completed the rout five minutes from time.

Egyptian midfielder Ghaly, who is being convinced to carry on with Derby by coach Paul Jewell, played the full 90 minutes.

The already-relegated Derby lie at the bottom of the Premiership table with 11 points.

They need to bag four more points in the remaining matches of the season to avoid being the worst team in the competition's history.
