Veteran midfielder Ateya Saber converted a penalty to help Asyut Petroleum claim an invaluable win.

Asyut Petroleum, who are coached by former Ahli player Mohamed Amer, returned to the top flight after just one season of being relegated to the second division.

They caused an upset in the Egyptian Cup when they ousted Cairo giants Ahli from the tournament's preliminary round.

Asyut Petroleum were later eliminated after slumping to a 2-0 defeat to ENPPI in the cup's round of 16.
