Shawky will play no further part this season after sustaining a back injury during Boro's training session on Thursday.

"It will be difficult for me to play in Egypt's first four World Cup qualifiers," he told FilGoal.com on Friday.

"I hope I can recover quickly because I'm keen to take part of the qualifying campaign."

The Pharaohs will play their first four qualifiers on successive weekends in June.

The former Ahli midfielder is expected to be out for up to six weeks.

He will miss Middlesbrough's remaining Premiership games against Manchester City and Portsmouth.
