Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate vows to work hard in order to develop the Premiership survivors into a much stronger side.

This season featured the signing of Egyptian duo Mido and Mohamed Shawky, but the former England defender is looking forward to more changes in the summer.

"This summer is the cut off point for that and time for the club to be run in the way I think it should be run," he told the club's official site.

"I'm talking about things that are already under my control now - the way we work as a group, the way we train and our discipline has to change slightly.

"There are lots of changes that have to happen. And I'm willing to work 24 hours a day to make sure they do.

"I want to repay the chairman for keeping his nerve when lots of other clubs were changing their managers.

"We have to get stronger. I think there's room for improvement within this squad and we have to add the right players to it."

Recent speculation suggested that the likes of George Boateng, Gary O'Neil and Chris Riggott could be on their way out of the Riverside.
