Libero newspaper reported that the Portuguese star ran over a specific black cat that has been prowling the Appiano Gentile for a while.
Subsequently, animal rights groups in Italy were frustrated with the Portuguese, who was severely criticized by some protesting banners.
"Figo, you've killed a black cat, the whole world is disgusted with you."
Another added: "Figo, shame for Inter, justice for the cat."
Legal Action
Figo responded negatively to the speculation as he denied being involved in the accident and threatened to take legal action against the newspaper.
"It's is completely untrue. I want them to apologize otherwise I will be obliged to take legal action," he told Inter's official site.
The Inter website also claimed that Figo was "gravely offended on a human level" by the accusation.
Not Yet
Apart from the cat crisis, Figo implied that he is not ready to retire at the end of the season, despite his continuous injury problems.
"I don’t know what my future will be yet, but I don’t want to end it on the treatment table. I would like to continue for another year," said the 35-year-old.
"Considering I owe six months of football to Inter, I hope to carry on here.
"I was welcomed with open arms in Milan and am happy that we have been able to give the fans such joy they were waiting for over many years."
