Henrik Larsson made a surprise return to the Swedish national team as he has been included in the 23-man final squad for the Euro 2008.

The 36-year old striker has been away from international duty since the World Cup 2006 but coach Lars Lagerback named him during a press conference on Tuesday.

“We began thinking about him last year when he was playing in the UEFA Cup, but only seriously in the last few weeks. Henrik has been looking really positive both as a person and as a player, and the way I know him he usually wants to play when he’s having fun,” Lagerback told a press conference.

Larsson, who represented Sweden 93 times, seemed delighted to recover his place in the Blagult.

"When I last retired after the (2006) World Cup, I didn’t think I would be playing football this long and that it would go this well or that there would be another championship,” he said.

"I was actually playing golf on Monday when I got Lagerback's call and it took me a second to say yes."

Sweden will be battling against Spain, Greece and Russia in group D.
