FA technical adviser Al-Gohari believed the new competition would help some players rediscover their form even if they were out of favor with their teams.

Top teams in Egypt such as Ahli and Zamalek repeatedly expel players whom they deem don't match the club's caliber as they have to register just 30 men in their local squads.

However, when those players shine with other teams, Ahli and Zamalek become embroiled in a fierce battle to re-sign them.

Al-Gohari's proposal would help the clubs field their fringe players in the new competition.

Plan Opposed

Al-Gohari's recommendation was turned down by the majority of the Egyptian FA members, who believed the association will not be able to finance the new competition.

They also think that it will not technically benefit Egyptian football.

Most first division teams have also opposed the plan. Egyptian champions Ahli are one of the few exceptions to support the idea.
