Malawi thrash Djibouti by eight

Outsiders Malawi issued a warning to their Group 12 rivals as they overwhelmed Djibouti 8-1 in the 2010 World Cup qualifier on Saturday.

Despite being only 2-1 up at half-time, the home side hammered their opposition's goal with six more goals after the break.

The other group game will see African champions Egypt taking on DR Congo at Cairo Stadium on Sunday.

Egypt will then visit Djibouti as Congo host Malawi in Kinshasa next week.

Elsewhere, in Group 1 Cameroon cruised to an easy 2-0 win over Cape Verde, courtesy of goals from Rigobert Song and Samuel Eto'o.

In Group 8, Morocco eased to a 3-0 victory over Ethiopia as Rwanda beat Mauritania by the same scoreline.

In the toughest game of the first round, Senegal edged 1-0 past Algeria in Group 6.

Namibia beat Kenya 2-1 in Group 2, whilst Togo beat Zambia 1-0 in Group 11.
