"Wigan boss Steve Bruce is ready to sign Croatia Euro 2008 striker Ivan Klasnic in a shock transfer swoop," said a report by British paper The People.

"Bruce has set up a deal for the 28-year-old, who is quitting German giants Werder Bremen at the end of his contract and is available on a free," added the unsourced report.

Bruce is keen on reinforcing his front line and has repeatedly tried to seal a deal with Zamalek for Egypt's forward Zaki.

Despite reaching an agreement for a one-year loan, with an option of a permanent move in June 2009, Zamalek are still hesitant to let their prolific striker go.

With Zamalek still undecided, Bruce is looking into other directions for a striker who can bring the team more goals next season.

Wigan have reportedly expressed interest to sign Frenchman Djibril Cisse from Marseille after the former Liverpool striker said he is keen on returning to the Premiership.
