Roma have tabled a reported 20-million euros bid to lure Mutu and Italian press said that the Romania captain could join the capital side soon.

But a statement on Fiorentina's website side read: "With reference to Roma's bid, Fiorentina president Andrea Della Valle states that Adrian Mutu will remain a Fiorentina player."

Mutu has scored 33 goals in 62 games for Fiorentina since joining in 2006.

He was sought by Roma to replace Brazil's Mancini who moved to Inter Milan.

The 29-year-old forward has been ordered by FIFA to pay former club Chelsea 12 million euros because of failing a drug test during his time with the Champions League finalists.
