Wigan Athletic boss Steve Bruce said it was hard to admit the defeat against Chelsea, 1-0, and that his men deserved at least a point.

"In my eyes, yes, we did enough. I think most people who witnessed it would say that too. They have given everything," the Latics manager told Skysports.com.

Wigan are the Premier League basement-side after conceding their second straight defeat.

"When you play these big teams sometimes you have to ride your luck. We didn't have to do that today because we played well against them," added Bruce.

Portuguese midfielder Deco opened the scoring after four minutes from a magnificent free kick.

Wigan, where plays Egyptian striker Amr Zaki, had a good response and went very close from the equalizer but Petr Cech made some heroic saves to keep his clean sheet.

Zaki produced another brilliant performance and was cheered by the crowd but couldn't beat the Blues' number 1.

Bruce has confirmed that he is proud of his men despite their first two defeats of the season.

"We had an outstanding chance to beat them today and at no stage did they look like they would rip us apart like they did Portsmouth."
