Manchester City offered a 'blank cheque' to sign prolific striker Ruud van Nistelrooy from Real Madrid, Spanish daily Marca reported on Wednesday.

Abu Dhabi United Group for Development and Investment (ABUG) stepped up their efforts to sign world class players, few hours after purchasing Premiership side City.

They managed to lure Real's Brazilian winger Robinho for a British transfer record of £32.5m on the transfer deadline day.

Marca stated that City were looking to add another Real player in the shape of Dutch frontman Van Nistelrooy.

For that purpose, the club were willing to pay any amount to acquire the 32-year-old's services.

But despite offering a blank cheque to sign Van Nistelrooy, Real chairman Ramon Calderon firmly refused to sell his top marksman.
