"We can confirm that we've accepted Alan Curbishley's resignation as we feel it is in the best interests of both parties. We wish Alan all the success in the future," read a statement on the club's official website.
Curbishley has been at loggerheads with the West Ham board over the club's transfer policy since the end of last season, and the former Charlton manager stressed that the conflict left him with no other option but leaving Upton Park.
"The club continued to make significant player decisions without involving me. In the end such a breach of trust and confidence meant that I had no option but to leave."
After Hammers' board assured Curbishley that Bobby Zamora and Anton Ferdinand will be the last big names to leave the club, he was outraged after full back George McCartney was sold to Sunderland right before the transfer window's closure.
"I felt I couldn’t just stand by and let what happened (selling McCartney) pass. I'm absolutely gutted I've had to come to this decision," Curbishley told Sky Sports.
Despite appointing Kevin Keen as caretaker coach following Curbishley's surprise resignation, former Hammers defender and current Croatia boss Slaven Bilic is leading the polls to be next West Ham gaffer.
