French striker Louis Saha revealed offering Everton to suspend his wages until he gets back in action.
The 30-year old striker is still recovering from a cartilage problem and will miss his new side's next few games.
"It was something I did offer but, in the end, it didn't happen. I'd had a few setbacks and I made the offer because that is my type of mentality,” the Frenchman told Skysports.com.
However, The Blues' board declined his offer and coach David Moyes is hoping he could pay them back on the pitch when he gets in shape.
"I want to be able to look at myself in the mirror. I could have been selfish but it wouldn't have been right," added Saha.
Saha joined Goodison Park on the transfer deadline day on a two-year deal after an injury-plagued four-year spell at Manchester United.
