Ahli playmaker Mohamed Abou-Treika has apologized for making a silence gesture towards Zamalek fans after scoring the equalizer in Sunday's 2-2 derby draw.

"I apologize for what I did. But I have been under huge pressure during the game. I'm not an angel," he told Ahli TV channel.

The calm-tempered player rushed towards Zamalek fans with his finger to his lips in a shushing gesture. He was infuriated by the fans’ constant insults towards him.

The Whites' assistant coach Tarek Yehia slammed Abou-Treika's conduct after the game, saying: "Abou-Treika’s action was disrespectful. A player of his caliber shouldn’t have done that."

Abou-Treika has also criticized the referee for not awarding him a penalty just before the break when Mohamed Aboul-Ella seemed to have tackled him.

Ahli's draw guaranteed them top spot in Group A, and the Egypt international is aiming for a third African title with the Reds.

"We are still dreaming of the clubs World Cup. We want to win the African title and travel to Japan for the third time," concluded Abou-Treika.
