The Italian side were leading 2-0 at Stade Gerland when Lyon pulled one back in a controversial fashion.

The French champions beat the offside trap because Fiorentina's Luciano Zauri was lying on the ground after being injured.

"I am happy with our performance, but it’s a shame for those two incidents in the second half where the referee could’ve done much better," Gilardino was quoted as saying by Calcio Italia.

"There is so much talk of sporting behavior and then things like this happen. Clearly we were too gullible."

Gilardino, who joined Fiorentina from AC Milan in the close season, netted twice in Fiorentina's draw with Lyon in Group F opener.
