Schalke winger Rafinha has been fined $1M (€700,000) by the Bundesliga club for taking part with Brazil in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

Schalke were infuriated after Rafinha joined the Selecao in August, despite the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruling in favor of clubs in the infamous club vs. country case.

"The fine is in accordance with the gravity of the situation," Schalke chairman Clemens Tonnies was quoted by Sportbild.

It is believed that Rafinha will call on CAS, hoping that the Brazilian Football Federation CBF would bear the penalty.
