Robin van Persie and Emmanuel Adebayor scored two goals apiece as Arsenal outclassed Porto 4-0 in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.

Dutch striker Van Persie opened the scoring after 31 minutes when he precisely converted Adebayor’s clever cut back.

Togolese towering striker Adebayor turned from provider to scorer five minutes before the break. He doubled Arsenal’s lead by heading home a corner.

Van Persie killed off the visitors’ hopes after scoring his second of the night three minutes after the restart.

Adebayor completed the rout when he converted a penalty. It was a perfect response for an Arsenal side that slumped to an embarrassing 2-1 Premiership defeat to newcomers Hull City.

“I didn’t want to punish the players after the Hull defeat. Sometimes you give a team the chance to respond,” Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger said after the game.

“It was what I expected, we could have scored more but we responded in a convincing way. I expect us to win the group from here.”

The Gunners went top of Group G with four points, one ahead of Porto.

Dinamo Kiev, who settled for a goalless draw with Fenerbahce, are third on two points while the Turkish giants lie at the bottom after bagging just one point from two games.
