Torres was stretched off after16 minutes of Spain's World Cup qualifier against Belgium on Wednesday, and initial diagnoses suggest that he might be out for 10 days.

"Torres has intense pain in the back part of his right thigh," Spain team doctor Oscar Celada was quoted as saying by Marca.

"It is difficult to diagnose now exactly the extent, if it is a question of a strain or a small tear. If it is a strain then he could be out for about a week."

The injury will be a massive blow to Liverpool coach Rafael Benitez who also had Dutch winger Ryan Babel injured during his country's qualifier against Norway.

Torres is now set to miss Liverpool's trip to Wigan in the Premiership on Saturday.
