The court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has ordered Ahli’s versatile midfielder Ahmed Fathi to pay $245,000 to an English players agency.
“This amount is our share in Fathi’s move to Ahli from Sheffield United,” the agency’s representative Ahmed Refai said on Friday.
“Fathi will be notified of the CAS decision within two days. If he declines to pay the money, he will be suspended from local and international matches.”
It remains to be seen whether Ahli would step in to prevent the Egyptian international from being suspended.
Fathi, who put in some impressive displays for Ahli after joining from English side Sheffield United last January, has been sidelined since April due to a ruptured Achilles tendon.
The 23-year-old nears a comeback as he returned to full training with the Red Devils.
