Algeria defender Antar Yahia says his side have a good chance to reach the World Cup for the first time since 1986 despite facing competition from African champions Egypt.

Algeria were drawn in Group C of the World Cup qualifiers' final phase along with Egypt, Rwanda and Zambia.

The Desert Foxes are expected to battle it out with the Pharaohs for the group's top spot, which brings with it World Cup qualification.

"It is a balanced group," Yahia, who plays for German club Bochum, told local paper Al-Haddaf.

"Given that we reached the final round, we will do our best to reach the World Cup.

"We have a good chance to realize that dream even though we would have to overcome Egypt and Rwanda, who beat Morocco in the preceding stage."

Egypt host Zambia in the group's opener at Cairo stadium while Algeria meet Rwanda away from home.

"We have to win all our home matches as well as mustering considerable amount of points on the road.

"Yes, Egypt are the reigning African champions but there other teams who could pose a threat," Yahia added.
