Despite finishing third in the Egyptian league last season, the 'Whites' have earlier announced their intention to take part in the Champions League in place of Ismaili who opted to take part in the Arab Champions League.

"No decisions were made about Zamalek's as the CAF's yet to receive any official requests from the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) about the club's request," CAF media spokesman told FilGoal.com.

"We only communicate through national federations not clubs, that's why we will only discuss the proposition if EFA informs us of Zamalek's desire to play in the competition."

Meanwhile, another CAF anonymous source that Zamalek's chances of playing in next year's Champions League are limited due to the African Federation strict rules regarding the matter.

"Only domestic league champions and runners up are allowed to participated in the Champions League from the 12 top seeded countries," the source told FilGoal.com.

"Even in case a team pulls out of the competition, no replacements can be made."
