Bayern's 2-1 win over Schalke on Sunday made it five on the trot for the Bavarians, and Klinsmann couldn’t be happier after leaving Gelsenkirchen with the valuable points.

"Heading home with all three points is very satisfying. Our aim is to go top as soon as possible. If we keep on collecting points like this, it’s just a matter of time," Klinsmann said after the game.

"Schalke put us under a lot of pressure in the first half. We had to correct few things tactically at half-time, and we kept it a lot tighter after that, so we were a lot more comfortable down the flanks."

Midfielder Franck Ribery, who scored Bayern's winner in the first half, echoed his coach's words by hoping to go top of the league table before the end of the year.

"We’ve caught up a lot of ground and we’re hoping to be top at Christmas.

"The first priority today was to avoid defeat. It’s always hard to win away to Schalke, because they’re a good team with a fantastic crowd behind them."

After a poor start to their season, the five consecutive victories leave Bayern in third place with 24 points, one point adrift of joint leaders Bayer Leverkusen and Hoffenheim.
