Newly appointed Argentina coach Diego Armando Maradona was content with his team's showing during the 1-0 friendly win over Scotland at Hampden Park on Wednesday.

In his first game in charge of Argentina, the living legend was given a winning start, thanks to an eighth minute Maxi Rodriguez strike, and when asked about the 'less than impressive win' he responded fashionably.

"Are you Scottish? You must be Scottish. I can't agree with your point," Maradona told a journalist after the game.

"We were excellent for 25 minutes. We scored early. We didn't convert another half-dozen chances but we kept the ball and it was a deserved victory."

The former Napoli star spoke of the importance of winning his first game with Argentina, adding that the team's string of poor results had to come to an end.

"We needed to get out of a bad run. It has been a long time since we won and expressed ourselves on the pitch like that. Tonight we played for the blue and white and for the people of Argentina.

"I have dedicated myself 100% this week to lifting the morale of the players, and I have succeeded in removing the fear of defeat from the players," concluded Diego.
