Ballack undermines Liverpool

Chelsea midfielder Michael Ballack said only the Blues and defending champions Manchester United are capable of competing for this year's Premier League title.

Even though Liverpool are keeping pace with the London-based side at the league's top spot, Germany skipper Ballack is convinced that Rafa Benitez's men are not in contention for the trophy.

"It's always the big four that everyone speaks about but I think it's still about Chelsea and Man United," Ballack told The Sun.

Liverpool haven't claimed the Premiership title in 18 years, and yet, their splendid run this season indicated that their winning chances are substantially high.

"Liverpool are very good at this moment but for me they are always a club for the Champions League, partly because they can put all their focus on one or two matches," Ballack added.

"But when you look at results and squads over the past couple of seasons as a whole, I think us and Man U are just a little bit stronger."

The 32-year-old also believes that fifth-placed Arsenal are lagging far behind, and they are not posing any threat at the moment.

"Arsenal are already behind which makes it very difficult for them," he added.
