Bayern Munich are ready to hit their financial limits in order to convince midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger stay next season.

The Germany international runs out of contract next summer, and is yet to reach an agreement with the Bundesliga champions over a new deal.

However, Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge implied that the club will make their best efforts to hold on to the 24-year-old.

"Bastian belongs to Bayern. He has become great here. We will fight for him and go up to the limit of what is feasible in order to keep him," Rummenigge told Bild.

"It is clear to us that the interest in a free Germany international is very big. We cannot help that there will be talks."

Real talks

Meanwhile, Spanish paper AS reported that Schweinsteiger has called off his initial negotiations with Real Madrid.

Real technical secretary Miguel Angel Portugal was scheduled to hold talks with the player's representatives this week, but the meeting was called off after Kicker magazine published a story unveiling the negotiations plan.

However, Los Merengues were only planning on signing Schweinsteiger after his contract runs out.

"We only wanted to know if the player would leave at the end of the season, but he is not someone we are looking at for January," a club insider told AS.

Schweinsteiger graduated from Bayern youth academy to become one of the top players in the club, as well as the national Mannschaft.
