Real Madrid are considering signing Wigan Athletic hitman Amr Zaki during the January transfer window, Marca newspaper reported on Saturday.

The European giants desperately need to land a new striker in order to fill the void left by Ruud van Nistelrooy, who has been sidelined for the remainder of the season due to a major knee injury.

The well-known publication mentioned that Ajax skipper and current top scorer Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Benfica's Angel Di Maria and Lazio's Mauro Zarate are also tipped to move to Los Merengues.

Real chairman Ramon Calderon had earlier revealed that the Spanish champions are going to bolster their frontline with new signings in the winter transfer window.

Fruitful Run

Egypt marksman Zaki, who scored eight Premier League goals since he joined the Latics on loan from Zamalek, has dragged the attention of several prominent clubs with his dazzling displays.

Steve Bruce's men, on the other hand, are eager to keep hold of the prolific striker, and reach an agreement with the Cairo-based club over a permanent deal.

However, once his loan period expires by the end of the ongoing season, the well-built player would be able to seal a move should another club outbid the Premiership side.
